The Burriers have been a prominent winegrowing family in southern Burgundy since the 15th Century and have owned Château de Beauregard in Pouilly-Fuissé for six generations. Frédéric-Marc Burrier is the family member in charge of the château, and runs the négociant business, Maison Joseph Burrier, which was named for his grandfather. In 2015, Maison Joseph Burrier purchased a stake in Domaine de la Rochette in nearby Bussières; a location that Frédéric-Marc identified as the ideal location for high quality, terroir-driven Mâcon white wine.

About the Vineyard

The Mâconnais takes its name from the city of Mâcon and sits between the regions of Côte Chalonnaise to the north and Beaujolais to the south. Maison Joseph Burrier owns over 70 acres of Chardonnay, within the appellations of Pouilly-Fuissé, Saint-Véran, and Mâcon-Bussières.

Wine Production

Bussières is one of 26 villages allowed to attach their name to Mâcon given that the wine comes entirely from that commune. This Mâcon-Bussières is made from 60-year-old vines grown at an altitude of 350 meters on a steep slope facing Southwest, just below the rocky cliff of Mont Sard.  The wine is fermented and aged in stainless-steel tanks.

Tasting Notes

Because of the vineyard’s altitude and limestone-rich clay, this Mâcon-Bussières shows a harmonious mineral-driven acidity. Aromatic, with notes of ripe, yellow stone fruits, this wine delivers a supple mouthfeel due to 9 months of lees aging.

Food Pairing

White Burgundy, with its richness, texture, and toasted flavors pairs well with light fish and shellfish and can counterbalance cream-based sauces. Oak-aged Chardonnay lends itself well to grilled fish, starches, butter, and toasted nuts.
